The Biography Channel is a Canadian English language Category A specialty channel. It primarily features biographies on famous people and events throughout history and today including predominantly celebrities and also politicians, historical figures and more; Other programming includes documentary series and reality programs. The Biography Channel is wholly owned by Rogers Media. ==History== Licensed as ''The Biography Channel'' by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) on November 24, 2000; the channel was launched on September 7, 2001 as a joint venture between Rogers Media (33.34%), Shaw Communications (33.33%) and A&E Networks (33.33%)—who owned the network's American counterpart. In 2006, both Shaw and A&E sold their interests in the channel to Rogers. When the American Biography Channel rebranded as FYI on July 7, 2014, this channel did not follow suit, as the former Twist TV instead became the Canadian presence for FYI on September 1, 2014. On November 5, 2015, Rogers and Vice announced The Biography Channel would relaunch as Viceland in the winter of 2016.〔(Vice Media will launch a 24-hour TV channel in Canada in 2015 ). ''Canadian Business'', October 30, 2014.〕 Viceland will launch with a full slate of original programming, including ''Gaycation'' with Ellen Page and Ian Daniel, ''Black Market'' with Michael K. Williams, ''Terror'' with Vice Magazine co-founder Suroosh Alvi, and Canadian-made programming. The channel will launch concurrently with the American television network H2's rebranding as Viceland in 2016.
